The owner of this new construction home wanted to capitalize on views from their property to the landscape and mountains beyond. This priority led to the selection of this scheme, which placed two building wings at a slight angle on both sides of a central space in the home. The design served to minimize the visual impact of the home from the front while simultaneously opening up the living spaces to expansive views out the rear. We worked closely with the owner to revise that initial design and move all the living and entertaining spaces to the rear of the home, which modified the two-wing plan into a stepped form that both preserved the intent of having wide views to the landscape while allowing the internal great room to break down into more intimate living spaces that are still relatively open and connected to one another.
