This full basement remodel renovates the entire lower level of a house in the Avenues into a guest apartment, re-connected to the main floor above. The basement had an existing concrete shelf foundation, which is now utilized as a newly finished datum all around the perimeter walls. The bathroom and utility room are pushed to the rear of the footprint, opening the center of the plan for the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. The front space is converted to a small bedroom, partitioned by a translucent pocket door. Three unique interior volumes are clad with wood flooring to warm up the material palette and distinguish elements within the plan. Careful consideration was given to borrowing natural light between spaces and providing storage wherever possible.
